Our Story

How Debt-Tok came to be

Our journey began when Ashley saw Caylan doing her micropayment journey on TikTok and thought she could benefit from this to help with her credit card debt.

Like most people, we have our own struggles with high interest rates and cost of living. We were struggling to keep up with our bills and needed a change.

Ashley began keeping a journal along with Post-It notes covered in engagement figures and payout calculations. Her partner felt it was unsustainable keeping bits of paper everywhere and wanted to help. Using his software development skills, he developed a basic app, originally called DebtReel, to help keep everything stored in one place.

As Ashley used DebtReel, she became more excited about the journey. She approached other micropayment creators on TikTok to share her experiences. The more she used it, the more she realized the app was too good not to share with the wider debt community. Plans were forged to open it up to everyone facing similar challenges.

And that's when DebtReel became Debt-Tok.

We believe people on the micropayment journey shouldn't have to pay for expensive apps or incur monthly charges when they're trying to become debt-free. That's why we're providing Debt-Tok completely free. While donations are greatly welcomed and help us keep the lights on, we're committed to keeping this tool accessible to everyone who needs it.

Today, we're on this journey together with hundreds of creators who are turning their engagement content into a path toward financial freedom. Every Post-It note, every engagement, every milestone brings us closer to being debt-free.
